Carving stone into sculpture is as old as civilization itself. Prehistoric sculptures were usually human forms with later cultures devising animal, human-animal and abstract forms in stone. Modern technology may employ labour saving devices, but sculptors still use hammer and chisel as the basic tools for carving stone.
Guy Stevens graduated from Chelsea School of Art in 1994. In 2001 he began to work with stone. Early figurative relief carvings gradually gave way to more developed abstract pieces. It was this work in stone that provided Guy with a means of expressing himself both conceptually and physically.
This website displays selected areas of Guys work including public art installations (individual and collaborative), stone sculpture, relief carvings, carved bowls & spoons and heads.
