Stone sculpture

Portland House

2011

Originally my idea was to make a sphere and hollow it out so a person could fit inside, it soon became apparent that this could not happen. Although it seemed big enough in the quarry, once all the unwanted stone was removed, I realised it was too small and I would never fit inside, no matter how much stone was wasted out. Once understood, the stone directed me to the resulting form. Water collects in the hollow of the sculpture, reflecting light inside on a bright day.
